Registrations are open for the IIC Thailand’s Chapter Webinar, held on July 22, 2020, discussing Data Privacy in the Time of COVID-19.
Governments have been active in developing measures to help reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. These include using contact tracing applications to help limit the spread of the disease. However, there are concerns about these applications, especially because of the potential for intruding on individual privacy and for government surveillance. Recently, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) launched Guidelines 04/2020 on the use of location data and contact tracing tools in the context of the COVID-19 outbreak to ensure that people can have confidence in the way their data are used in these situations.
This webinar will discuss the different measures being employed in Thailand as well as other ASEAN countries and further afield in these extraordinary times, and how the balance between protecting individuals can be set against safeguarding their data privacy.
The webinar is free to attend but registration is mandatory. We encourage questions for the panel, to be submitted by by 1900 AEST, Tuesday 21 July by email.
