Gartner Research expects expenditure to double in spite of COVID-19
The website telecoms.com reports on research from Gartner on investment in wireless infrastructure. The report indicates that service providers are prioritising spend on 5G; investment in the technology is expected to reach $8.1 billion globally – almost double that of 2019 –as a result of governments and regulators fostering the development, as well as greater competition. More spectrum availability in the latter part of the year should see a further acceleration. While COVID-19 has resulted in companies re-prioritising some operations during the pandemic, this is not expected to have a significant impact overall. 4G will command the largest share of investment, at over $16 billion – a 20 per cent reduction over 2019, says Gartner.
