Unit will create codes of conduct for platforms
The UK’s move to regulate big technology platforms takes shape as the Digital Markets Unit (DMU) begins work, reports the BBC. Based inside the Competition and Markets Authority, the unit is expected to draft codes of conduct to govern the relationships between tech firms and their users, including advertisers and news organisations. The unit is described as ‘unashamedly pro-competition’, and aiming to create online markets that have ‘consumers, entrepreneurs and content publishers at their heart’. However, the DMU is unlike to be granted full regulatory powers until later this year.
