‘Hyper-connectivity’ could be commercialised by 2028
Samsung has set out its plans for 6G with three categories of requirements, reports telecompaper. In performance, the company is targeting twice the energy efficiency of 5G, with 50 times the peak data rate, and latency reduced by 90%. The company goes on to describe how the architecture will implement AI from the outset and enable flexible network integration, while the ‘trustworthiness requirement’ will resolve issues of security and privacy. Samsung envisages the technology providing advanced services such as ‘truly immersive extended reality’, ‘high fidelity mobile holograms’ and digital replication. Candidate technologies include use of the terahertz frequency band, advanced duplex technologies and spectrum sharing. Meanwhile, 5G is still in full development, says the news site, with Release 17 expected by the end of 2021.
